The Cooper Union


To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is intended to supply verification that E3 NV, LLC and its predecessor company, Elite Energy Engineering, designed and managed the installation, start-up and commissioning of the cogeneration plant located at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art and E3 continues to provide remote monitoring, performance reporting and other operation functions required by the New York State Research and Development Authority.

Cooper Union’s 41 Cooper Square academic building, where the E3 cogen system is installed, is a LEED Platinum-certified building. The building was originally intended to have a cogeneration system. E3 designed a 250 KW cogeneration system with an absorption chiller and heat recovery on pre-manufactured skids that were craned onto the roof. In addition E3 designed the building integration as well as permits and approvals for the electrical interconnection with Con Edison, air permitting and other specialized aspects of the cogen system. This project received incentives from NYSERDA that required E3 to design and implement a software interface to provide 5 minute performance uploads to the NYSERDA CHP tracking database.

Our experience with Michael De’Marsi from Elite and E3 has been outstanding and we are impressed with his expertise and readiness to help. Cooper Union has realized energy savings for this project and we are continually working with E3 to further optimize the system’s performance. Another benefit from the system, all be it less tangible, is that it has been used as a teaching tool for the mechanical engineering students in understanding onsite cogeneration as an energy efficiency technology.
